Celebrate Business Networking With Me – Or Perhaps Not?

Why you?  Well, I assume you are an entrepreneur.  These are the great people that BNI attract, and I assume you ‘get’ digital as you are logging on and reading a blog.  The part missing from the Queen’s Citation to me was ‘networking’.  Everything I have done and continue to do is about helping business people understand how to network online.  I know 100% that as a BNI member you are aware of business networking.  So, here you are – please celebrate with me that our world has been recognised at quite a high level.

What might elude you is the word ‘social’ and you are not alone if it does.  Business people continue to be thrown by the word and therefore either avoid the ‘social’ side of connecting within online social networks or communities, or even worse, they do network but they are appalling at the culture and need to be social.

As much as you can, I’d ask that you please see the online networking world in the same way that you approach your business breakfasts with BNI.  Those of you that come in and display your business card only seeking to find customers are failing at the very essence of the BNI and social world.  Those of you who know how to listen, care, share and support one another unconditionally and without your own agenda, totally get it.

Can I most respectfully (which I know we all know means ‘with no respect at all’) ask you to think about how you connect online within Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or BNI’s online world?  Are you being a painful salesman, or are you being a member of the community?  Don’t change the way you are offline, it works.  When online, feel the same energy as if you were face-to-face.  You will love it, and more importantly, others will love you.

If you would like to be my friend, connect with me on Twitter @pennypower and perhaps over the next 40 years of my life on this planet I can support and care for you in some way. I am a no ‘selling to you’ zone, you are safe with me!
